About Me

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Following my first degree in Psychology I spent 5 years at Reuters working internationally in the realm of Leadership Development and Change Management; also becoming fully qualified to administer and interpret Level A Psychometric testing (BPS). It was during this time I gained a true insight into the value of personal therapy and coaching, and developed a preference for assisting people independently. I soon decided to move from Occupational Psychology to Counselling Psychology so as to facilitate change for individuals on a personal level. Since this time I have completed numerous trainings which include a Post-MSc PGDip in the Practice of Counselling Psychology, an MSc in Counselling Psychology, PGDip in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and a 20 day NLP practitioner training programme accredited by ABNLP and NLP(UK).

Following this training I have obtained Chartered Status as a Counselling Psychologist with The British Psychological Society and Registered Practitioner Psychologist status with the Health Care Professions Council; abiding by their professional codes of conduct.

Since 2001 I have been running a successful private practice, alongside which I have provided counselling services for Charities, GPs, Wandsworth Borough Council and Consultancy for a number of Secondary Schools in both Surrey and Berkshire. I have vast experience with a wide range of presenting issues, client groups and therapeutic approaches, successfully working with clients as young as 11 years old to assisting people in their late 80s.

With a continued commitment to professional development I have taken additional training to specialise in the treatment of eating disorders, PTSD, suicide and self harm and have extensive experience in working with anxiety, depression, low mood, panic disorders, relationship difficulties, attachment disorders, substance abuse, recovery from childhood traumas and abuse, personality disorders, confusion with gender identity and sexual preference, stress disorder, OCD, breavement and loss, the management of ME/CFS, and the enhancement of self esteem and self confidence.   For a more extensive list of treatment areas I cover please see my profile on the counselling directory (http://counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/amanda-charles) or please contact me directly (see contacts page).
